Pat stresses the importance of her writing critique group, and shares actual critiques with suggestions for cutting words, rephrasing and developing a story arc. Students learn about the illustrator and view original artwork.

Pat wrote a “reader’s theater” version of The Stitches Fairy. It is written at a 2nd grade level. The trunk show includes fun props and scripts of the story. Kids love reading and acting out the roles of Claire, Dad, and the fairy.

Picture book reviewer and blogger, Melissa Taylor reviewed Mr. Gibson’s Garden for her current posting,

“What’s New In Picture Books – August 2019.   Ms. Taylor had this to say about Mr. Gibson’s Garden:

I adore the illustrations and this lovely story about a crusty old gardener whose unneighborly attitude is transformed by a sweet little girl.   Long knows what goes into a good book – good writing with just the right amount of text alongside impressive illustrations.”
